IPS provides arguably the most in-demand training programs in Australia with an average of over 900 individuals registering to atttend an IPS training workshop each year across every state and territorty. IPS trains a wide range of professionals and para-professionals including psychiatrists, lawyers, psychologists, Aboriginal health, mental health and social and emotional wellbeing workers, teachers, Aboriginal community members and so on. The diversity of the training participants is another unique aspect of IPS work and certainly the significant demand for its training programs. IPS attributes this demand to a number of important factors. First, all training packages have been developed uniquely for Aboriginal people by Aboriginal people. It has been based on over 10 years of research into Aboriginal mental health with many aspects of IPS work drawing both national and international recognition. The uniqueness of these programs and the substantial science and cultural evidence base that talks to the practical relevance of the content means that participants work away being able to make sense of the very complex interface between mainstream and Aboriginal perspectives of mental health and wellbeing. Second, all trainings are delivered by Aboriginal people or non-Aboriginal people who have undertaken a significant amount of cultural training and have strong credentials in Aboriginal communities. Finally, the training programs undergo constant review and evaluation which means that IPS prides itself as being at the forefront of Aboriginal mental health issues as new information becomes available.
